The following comments were prepared by Vestry Member, Dick Webber (Feb. 2007 - Jan. 2010) and first appeared in the Winter 2010 edition of the St. Barnabas newsletter, The Clarion (to subscribe to The Clarion, please click here and add your e-mail address to our mailing list).About Oasis Ministry

During the past year or so, the Vestry has explored ways to make our parish family more inviting and welcoming to those whom the Lord leads our way. We believe that Saint Barnabas is welcoming and warm  to those who pass through our doors, but that we have never made a point of saying so.

So, at the November Vestry Meeting, we spoke out on behalf of the congregation and passed two resolutions. The first was the Oasis Statement of Affirmation as prepared by The Oasis Ministry of the Diocese of New Jersey. You can learn more about The Oasis Ministry by reading the box at the right.

But the Vestry felt that this resolution was too narrow, and also passed a broader resolution to say that any of category that is used to exclude God's people is not reflective of the love and caring of Saint Barnabas. Everyone whom God loves is welcome here.
